One of our most prestigious projects to date has been to assist the UN with defining the international Boundary between Nigeria and Cameroon. We have also done the same for the UN on the Kuwait-Iraq border. We have carried out numerous survey projects in Ethiopia, providing a number of highway surveys including one from Harar to Jijiga, which was approximately 117km. In Ethiopia, we have also carried out verification surveys, proof surveys, new and feasability studies.

In Cambodia, we carried out a survey for a highway improvement scheme from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
Merrett Survey have carried out numerous topographical surveys for housing developments in Kuwait. We have also provided highway surveys and all carried out topographic surveys for oil field development. We have provided other surveying services including oil well stake out surveys, rig move surveys, surveying of gathering stations and access roads.

We have worked extensively in Europe on a diverse range of projects, from using a terrestrial laser scanner to survey a ship, to cliff monitoring and providing airborne LiDAR services. We have provided GPS ground control for airborne LiDAR in:
Belgium, France, Germany, Greenland, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Spain and the UK.
In Europe we have provided GPS control surveys for Intertial Measurement Unit (IMU) in pipeline detection tool. Using GPS, we measure traps, welds and control points along the pipeline in order to correct IMU drift. This correction is done using our specially designed in-house software and minimises dig time and costs when locating pipeline defects and anomolies.
Merrett Survey have worked in many North American countries including: Bermuda, Jamaica, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the USA.
In Bermuda we provided survey services for the Department of Public Works. We provided a high accuracy GPS levelling network.
In Jamaica ground control was provided for a photogrammetric aerial survey which was for the improvement of a sewage and drainage system.
We have carried out pipeline mapping in Mexico as well as GPS and consultancy work. We have provided training for pipeline inspection company stafff. Data correlation services for offshore pipelines where merging MFL data with ROV submarine mapped route. We mapped onshore pipelines using our non-IMU mapping method, see our dedicated pipeline mapping website for further information.
We have worked in many American States providing ground control for airborne LiDAR surveys of powerlines and railway corridors. Our experienced GIS experts also transformed the large LiDAR data sets by converting them from one co-ordinate system to another. We are experienced with dealing with numerous grids and datums worldwide. In America further consultancy services were provided in order to validate the horizontal and vertical accuracy of the data against "test sites" that were surveyed. We provided an independent verification of the LiDAR. Our GIS and CAD experience can help to display and understand the large data sets that are collected with airborne LiDAR.

Merrett Survey have worked in Ecuador, The Falkland Islands and Venezuela.
In Venezuela we carried out a GIS asset survey to identify areas where the pipeline needs to be thickened or diverted. Our surveyors walked the pipeline route mapping features for integration into GIS.
Our in-house software classifies the pipeline automatically using the rules laid out in either 854.1(c) in ASME B31.8 or the UK equivalent, IDE/TD/1. The software solution aids in determining class locations by analysing the number and type of buildings and population density within a certain proximity to the pipeline.
By using GIS we can help identify parts of your pipeline which are subject to more rigorous regulation, helping to keep operating costs low while ensuring that the pipelines are operating as safely as they should.

Surveying 240 miles north of the Arctic Circle in Greenland presents many challenges, but Lidar provided a rapid and detailed survey to enable the design of a new open pit mine, plus access road to/from the camp/dock location, 600 below. We also own and operate a terrestrial laser scanner that can be deployed to scan the interior of mines and can deploy a remotely operated vehicle where access to the mine is difficult.

Merrett Survey Ltd was commissioned to carry out a terrestrial laser scan survey of the supports for the atrium roof at the Ministry of Education's new Headquarters in Kuwait.
The purpose of the scanning was to survey the roof support upstands and truss positions. These were then compared to the design drawing to ensure that the roof would fit when installed. Numerous discrepancies were discovered by the survey and had to be corrected prior to installation of the new roof.

Peter Merrett (Director at Merrett Survey) was a tutor at one of IBRU's workshops (International Boundary Research Unit) at Durham University, providing training on the practical aspects of boundary demarcation and geodetic control networks. He has also presented papers for the ILMF (International LiDAR Forum) in the USA and at pipeline conferences in Europe.
